Senator Orji Uzor Kalu Mourns Elder Statesman, Prof. Jubril Aminu

Former Governor of Abia State and Senator representing Abia North, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has expressed deep sadness over the passing of renowned academic and elder statesman, Professor Jubril Aminu.

In a statement on Thursday, Kalu described the late Professor Aminu as a patriotic Nigerian whose contributions to national development—especially in the fields of education, diplomacy, and public service—left an indelible mark on the nation.

Kalu said, “I am deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Professor Jubril Aminu, a distinguished scholar, diplomat, and politician. He was a man of great intellect and integrity, whose service to Nigeria inspired generations. As Minister of Education and later Minister of Petroleum Resources, his visionary leadership helped shape critical sectors of our country. He was a true elder statesman and personal to me .”

The former Chief Whip of the Senate extended his condolences to the Aminu family, the government and people of Adamawa State, and the entire nation, praying that God grants the deceased eternal rest and his loved ones the strength to bear the loss.

“Prof. Aminu’s legacy will continue to live on through the countless lives he touched and the institutions he helped build. Nigeria has lost one of her finest,” Kalu added.

Professor Jubril Aminu was a former Nigerian ambassador to the United States, a two-time minister, and senator representing Adamawa Central from 2003 to 2011. His passing marks the end of an era of selfless service and intellectual excellence.
