FCT, Abuja – The Presidency has unveiled a series of strategic engagements President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will undertake in the lead-up to Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day celebration on October 1, 2025.
Following his attendance at the coronation of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, in Oyo State, President Tinubu traveled to Lagos on Friday, September 26, for a working visit. Lagos will serve as his operational base ahead of the upcoming national celebration, which the government has described as a “low-key” but symbolically significant event.
According to official statements released via the Presidency’s verified X (formerly Twitter) account, four major activities have been scheduled during the President’s visit:
1. High-Level Engagements with Private Sector Leaders
While in Lagos, President Tinubu is expected to hold strategic meetings with senior government officials and prominent figures in the private sector. These engagements are aimed at fostering economic growth and improving the investment climate in the country.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, stated:
“The President will use this time to engage directly with stakeholders in both government and business. These conversations are central to his agenda for economic renewal.”
2. Visit to Imo State to Commission Infrastructure Projects
On Tuesday, September 30, President Tinubu will travel to Imo State to commission several completed infrastructure projects by Governor Hope Uzodimma. According to officials, these projects are part of the administration’s broader strategy to enhance infrastructure and stimulate regional development.
3. Commissioning of the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts
As part of activities marking Nigeria’s Independence anniversary, President Tinubu will commission the newly remodelled National Theatre in Lagos. The iconic venue has been renamed the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts, in honor of Africa’s first Nobel Laureate in Literature.
Onanuga described the initiative as:
“A tribute to Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and to one of Africa’s most distinguished literary figures.”
4. Strategic Political Consultations
In a related development, President Tinubu also held a closed-door meeting with former Kano State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on Friday, September 26. The meeting also included former Osun and Ogun governors, Olagunsoye Oyinlola and Ibikunle Amosun, respectively.
A video clip shared by Dada Olusegun, the President’s Special Assistant on Social Media, showed Tinubu warmly exchanging greetings with the political leaders. The nature and outcome of the discussions have not yet been disclosed, but sources suggest the meeting could be part of broader efforts to strengthen political alliances and national unity.
A Modest Yet Symbolic Independence Day
This year’s Independence Day celebration is expected to be modest in scale but rich in national symbolism. According to the Presidency, the approach reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to nation-building, economic revitalization, and inclusive governance.
