ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – The Federal Government has strengthened Nigeria’s emergency healthcare system with the deployment of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered road ambulances to 73 hospitals nationwide under the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (NHSRII).
According to the statement released on the official X handle of Presidency Nigeria, @NGRPresident, the ambulances, empanelled by the National Emergency Medical Service and Ambulance System (NEMSAS), are designed to enhance the referral network connecting secondary and tertiary healthcare facilities across the country.
Officials said the initiative will improve access to comprehensive emergency obstetric and newborn care by enabling faster patient transfers while reducing operational costs through the use of cleaner and more affordable CNG technology.
The deployment is expected to create a more coordinated emergency response system, ensuring that patients requiring specialized care can be moved swiftly between healthcare facilities.
The government described the rollout as a major milestone in its efforts to modernize Nigeria’s healthcare infrastructure, noting that the integration of 73 hospitals into a unified emergency response network marks the beginning of a new phase in the delivery of critical medical services.
The initiative forms part of the administration’s broader healthcare reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at improving access to quality healthcare and strengthening emergency medical services across the country.
