ABUJA (PRECISE POST)  –  Former Bayelsa State Governor and chieftain of the National Democratic Coalition (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has appealed to aspirants and stakeholders of the party to embrace peace, unity, and sportsmanship as the party conducts its primary elections and presidential affirmation process.
Dickson, who stated this on  his X handle on Friday, said preparations for the primaries commenced ahead of the exercises scheduled to conclude with the party’s presidential affirmation, urging all members to cooperate with the leadership in the overall interest of the party.
According to him, the party leadership had created opportunities for aspirants and stakeholders across various states to resolve disagreements and harmonise interests ahead of the elections.
He acknowledged that primary elections are often characterised by tension and clashes of interest but stressed the need for understanding, mutual respect, and commitment to the collective success of the party.
Dickson maintained that there were no endorsed candidates anywhere in the country, noting that all aspirants enjoyed equal protection under the party’s processes.
“I have not endorsed anyone, even in my home state,” he stated, adding that the same principle applies nationwide despite the intensity of contests in some states.
The former governor described the NDC as a young political party with “great ambitions,” revealing that members of the leadership had worked tirelessly under difficult conditions since January to meet deadlines set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He said the sacrifices made by party leaders and supporters should inspire aspirants to also make sacrifices in the interest of the party and Nigeria’s democracy.
Dickson called for free and fair primaries and urged members to ensure the protection and inclusion of women, youths, and persons with disabilities throughout the exercise.
He further advised aggrieved aspirants to either accept outcomes in good faith or channel their grievances through the party’s appellate process.
The senator also disclosed that the current primaries would be the first and last manual exercise conducted by the party, as plans were underway to introduce electronic voting and clearer regulations to reduce future complaints of irregularities.
Describing the NDC as a “miracle baby,” Dickson said it was remarkable that the party had achieved significant milestones within a few months due to the dedication and sacrifice of its members.
He announced that the party leadership would establish an Appeal Committee to address grievances arising from the primaries and appealed to members to bear with the party over any shortcomings experienced during the process.
Dickson therefore wished all aspirants success in the elections.
