ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has paid glowing tribute to Anthony Cardinal Okogie as the revered Catholic cleric marked three major milestones in his life and ministry.
In a congratulatory message shared on his X handle on Tuesday, Obi joined the Catholic faithful in Nigeria, particularly the Archdiocese of Lagos, in celebrating Cardinal Okogie on the occasion of his 90th birthday anniversary, 60th anniversary of priestly ordination, and 55th anniversary of episcopal ordination.
Describing the former Archbishop of Lagos as “a true soldier of Christ and an exemplary leader,” Obi expressed gratitude to God for the cardinal’s enduring legacy of faith and service to humanity.
He noted that Cardinal Okogie’s life has remained a remarkable testament to unwavering faith, courage, and commitment to justice, adding that the cleric’s dedication to the welfare of ordinary Nigerians and his fearless defence of truth and good governance have continued to inspire generations.
According to Obi, the nonagenarian cleric has distinguished himself as a moral voice in society, consistently standing for justice and speaking out on issues affecting the nation and its people.
The former Anambra State governor prayed for God’s continued blessings upon Cardinal Okogie, asking for good health, peace, and wisdom as he continues to provide spiritual guidance and leadership.
“May the Almighty God grant him continued good health, peace, and abundant blessings as he continues to guide us with his wisdom,” Obi stated while extending birthday wishes to the eminent Catholic prelate.
