A viral Instagram video shows Mazi Nnamdi Kanu , leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), visibly crying as the final judgment was read against him in court. On 20 November 2025 , a Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced Kanu to life imprisonment on terrorism charges. Reports say the judge chose life instead of the death penalty, citing “justice tempered with mercy.”
In the video, Kanu appears emotional as the verdict is delivered. The trial has been highly controversial, with Kanu and his supporters claiming it is politically motivated.
The sentence has sparked strong reactions, especially in Nigeria’s southeast, where Kanu has significant support. Legal experts suggest an appeal may be filed.
