The Yobe State Police Command has launched a manhunt for an 18-year-old woman, Khadija Jamilu, following a serious domestic dispute that left her husband critically injured in Potiskum Local Government Area.
According to police sources, the incident occurred in the early hours of Friday after a disagreement between the couple reportedly escalated. The 25-year-old man sustained severe injuries and was immediately rushed to the State Specialist Hospital, Potiskum, before being referred to the Federal Medical Centre, Azare, Bauchi State, for advanced medical care. He is currently receiving treatment.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed that officers from the Potiskum Divisional Police Headquarters responded to a distress call at about 3:00 am, leading to an urgent intervention.
âPreliminary investigations indicate that the suspect fled the scene after the incident. Efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest her, while a full investigation has commenced,â the statement said.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, condemned all forms of domestic violence, stressing that marriage should be built on mutual respect, understanding, patience, and peaceful dialogue.
âMarriage should never become an avenue for abuse, violence, or humiliation. Conflicts should be resolved through calm discussion, counselling, and mediation, not aggression,â he said.
The police boss also urged couples and intending spouses to seek proper guidance before and during marriage, embrace emotional control during disagreements, and involve trusted mediators such as family members, religious leaders, or community elders when conflicts escalate.
He further called on community leaders, families, and youth groups to intensify awareness campaigns on healthy relationships, conflict resolution, and responsible family values, especially among young people.
The police assured residents that updates would be provided as investigations continue.
