13 Years of DACA: Obama Urges Compassionate Immigration Reform

by Edit

WASHINGTON DC – (PRECISE POST)  –   Former U.S. President Barack Obama has recalled that hinted that it is exactly13th anniversary of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program,  and has called for renewed compassion and common-sense reform in America’s immigration system.

Obama made the appeal on Sunday when he took to his X handle.

Reflecting on the origins of DACA, Obama said his administration acted to protect young people “who were American in every single way but one: on paper.” The policy, implemented in 2012, offered temporary protection from deportation and work authorization to undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children.

“DACA was an example of how we can be a nation of immigrants and a nation of laws,” Obama stated, adding that the program remains a powerful reminder of the nation’s values at a time when immigrant families “are being demonized and treated as enemies.”

He emphasized the urgent need for bipartisan immigration reform that balances enforcement with humanity. “We can fix our broken immigration system while still recognizing our common humanity and treating each other with dignity and respect. In fact, it’s the only way we ever will,” he concluded.

The DACA program remains a focal point in national debates on immigration, especially amid ongoing legal challenges and calls for congressional action to provide permanent legal status for its recipients.
