Veteran Nollywood actor, Zulu Adigwe has reportedly passed on. Adigwe is said to have died on Tuesday evening. His death was announced in an Instagram post by Movie producer, Stanley Nwoko. “I regret to announce the passing of a veteran actor, late Mr Zulu Adigwe. “What caused his death is yet to be reviewed. Rest in peace good actor,” he added. During his career, Adigwe was famous in the movies: “Living in Bondage”, “Breaking Free”, and many others. Nollywood has lost seven of its actors in 2024. They are Sisi Quadri, Mr. Ibu, Amaechi Muonagor, Andy Best, Jumoke Aderounmu and Junior Pope.

NEMA says comprehensive risk analysis needed in disaster management

ENUGU- The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) says preparedness is a vital component of disaster management which needs to be given adequate attention to ensure timely, effective and efficient response. The Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, said this while declaring open a three-day Workshop on the Update of Hazard Risks Analysis for Nigeria, holding in Enugu. Umar, who was represented by NEMA’s Director, Planning, Research and Forecasting, Dr Onimode Bandele, stressed the necessity of proactive measures in mitigating various hazards and risks. She called for more collaboration between NEMA and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in addressing the challenges of disaster management in Nigeria, which had continued to yield positive results. Umar noted that ongoing hazard risk analysis, data gathering and mapping initiative would be instrumental in enhancing knowledge of Nigeria’s risk terrain and guiding risk-informed programming. “The workshop brought key stakeholders together to deliberate on identifying, reviewing, and updating impending risks faced by Nigeria,” she said. Cross River Government NGO to deworm 886,292 school children in 2024

CALABAR- No fewer than 886,292 children have been targeted for the 2024 school deworming exercise by the Cross River state government, in collaboration with a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Evidence Action. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the annual comprehensive state-wide, school-based deworming exercise would be carried out by the Neglected Tropical Disease (NTD) Unit of the state Ministry of Health, in conjunction with the NGO. NAN also reports that the exercise would be implemented by NTD, in partnership with the state Ministry of Education, State Universal Basic Education Board and the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency. NAN further reports that the exercise which commences on Wednesday, ends next Tuesday. No fewer than 623,828 school-aged children are also targeted to receive Mebendazole tablets for the preventive treatment of soil-transmitted helminthiasis (STH) and another 173,000 for schistosomiasis (SCH) Similarly, some 1,000 trained health workers are expected to administer the tablets in 2,000 schools across 14 local government areas (LGAs) in the state. REWANDA- The International Rescue Committee (IRC) has condemned the UK’s decision to send asylum seekers to Rwanda. The condemnation followed the passage of the ‘Safety of Rwanda Bill‘. UNITED STATES- The United States Government has decried the continuous mindless killings of Christians by killer herdsmen in Plateau State unrelentingly taking place under the watch of President Bola Tinubu. The U.S. Department of State expressed its dissatisfaction about the killings in the state in its ‘2023 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices: Nigeria,’ published on its website on Tuesday. The U.S. government cited numerous reports of deliberate killings or deaths resulting from attacks by violent extremists.  It said, “In October, suspected Boko Haram militants shot at villagers and set off a land mine in Yobe State, killing at least 40 individuals. On December 23 and 24, unknown gunmen attacked 17 villages in Plateau State and killed at least 150 individuals. Alleged accidental shooting by guard leaves LAUTECH student dead, two others injured

OYO- Alleged accidental discharge from the gun of a yet-to-be-identified security agent on Tuesday in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, killed a student of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology  and injured two others. It was gathered that the incident happened at the institution when the security agent was invited to settle a misunderstanding between two people in the school. An eyewitness said the security agent allegedly shot sporadically into the air while attempting to settle the matter. The witness said that it was in the process that the bullet hit the student who lost his life, while two other students got injured. The incident reportedly triggered a riot in the school as students locked the school’s gates in protest, seeking for justice for the deceased. The Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, SP Adewale Osifeso, confirmed the incident, adding that investigation had commenced. “Investigation is ongoing.
