Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2023 Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) have formally appealed to President Bola Tinubu, expressing concerns over their exclusion from key appointments and patronage. They warned that continued neglect could undermine the ruling party’s cohesion and electoral prospects ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The appeal, delivered via an open letter dated Monday, August 18, 2025, was authored by Alhaji Mohammed Mariam Alhassan, leader of the concerned PCC members.
Alhassan began by congratulating President Tinubu, APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, and other party leaders on their recent by-election successes, which he described as a clear testament to Tinubu’s “political resilience, strategic leadership, and commitment to democratic consolidation.”
However, he cautioned that sidelining PCC members — who played pivotal roles in Tinubu’s 2023 electoral victory — presents a “strategic vulnerability” for the APC if left unaddressed.
“The current perception of neglect in appointments and patronage among many Campaign Council members is more than just an internal grievance; it is a risk that could weaken the party,” Alhassan stated.
He emphasized that PCC members were instrumental in spreading Tinubu’s message nationwide, defending his mandate in challenging regions, and securing electoral victory. Their ongoing motivation and inclusion, he argued, are vital to maintaining the party’s momentum as it gears up for 2027.
“In politics, the most valuable asset before an election is a motivated and united base. When key contributors feel valued, they redouble their efforts; when overlooked, they disengage—and such disengagement creates openings for political opponents,” Alhassan noted.
The group urged President Tinubu to prioritize empowering PCC members through increased inclusion and patronage, describing such steps as not only rewards for loyalty but strategic investments in the party’s stability and future success.
“By deliberately boosting the inclusion and patronage of these key stakeholders now, you would be strengthening your political machinery for 2027,” the letter read.
Alhassan also reminded the President that the APC’s strength lies in its ability to mobilize and unify diverse interests, stressing that empowering proven actors would minimize internal dissent and reinforce the party’s dominance.
While wishing the nation continued peace and unity, the PCC members concluded by emphasizing that “2027 is closer than it appears,” urging President Tinubu to consolidate alliances to secure his political legacy.
