ENUGU (PRECISE POST)  –  Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has highlighted that the  justice sector reform has been a cornerstone of his administration, saying that his key achievements include the full implementation of financial autonomy for the judiciary, extensive rehabilitation and digitization of courts across the state, and the introduction of modern technologies such as e-filing, virtual hearings, and real-time transcription.

Governor Mbah unveiled this at the opening ceremony of the 2025 Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Annual General Conference in Enugu on Sunday.

The Governor emphasized that the law being a mere profession; it serves as the conscience of the nation. Addressing distinguished lawyers and leaders, he underscored their roles not only as courtroom advocates but also as defenders of truth, architects of peace, and champions of equity.

Mbah, who took to his X handle to disclose this, said since assumption of office, the justice sector reform has been a cornerstone of his administration. Key achievements include the full implementation of financial autonomy for the judiciary, extensive rehabilitation and digitization of courts across the state, and the introduction of modern technologies such as e-filing, virtual hearings, and real-time transcription. These innovations have significantly reduced delays caused by manual recording.

The administration has also expanded the Enugu Multi-Door Courthouse to enhance alternative dispute resolution, broadened access to pro bono legal services for indigent citizens and detainees, and undertaken a comprehensive review of outdated state laws to align with contemporary realities, promote gender justice, and facilitate easier business operations.

The Governor stressed that these reforms are steps toward a larger vision: making Enugu the preferred destination for investment, innovation, and inclusive development. He linked the success of initiatives such as smart schools, safe communities, and accessible healthcare directly to the existence of a fair, functional, and trusted justice system.

The Governor warmly welcomed NBA members gathered for the historic event and acknowledged the presence of notable figures including His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Dr. Sa’ad Abubakar III, who chaired the ceremony, and Julius Malema, the South African parliamentarian and Economic Freedom Fighters leader, who delivered the keynote address.

In closing, the Governor affirmed, “Enugu is rising, and justice is at the heart of our journey.”
