Shock and grief have gripped the people of Esa-Oke, Osun State, after a young woman, identified as Bidemi Omole, reportedly died shortly after arriving at her boyfriend’s residence.
According to eyewitnesses, Bidemi visited her boyfriend, Yinka, on the evening of Friday, August 25, 2025, when she suddenly fell ill. Despite efforts to rush her to the hospital, she tragically passed away on the way.
The incident, which occurred around 9:30 pm, threw the community into confusion as residents trooped to Yinka’s house upon hearing the distress call.
A resident, identified only as Taye, revealed that the deceased was believed to be on her way to a Friday night vigil before stopping over at her boyfriend’s home.
“We heard cries for help and rushed to Yinka’s house. By the time I got there, security personnel were already on the scene, but the crowd was overwhelming. Sadly, she died not long after arriving,” Taye said.
Police Confirm Investigation
The Osun State Police Command confirmed the incident, assuring the public that a thorough investigation was underway.
Police spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi said:
“The suspect, identified as Yinka, is currently in police custody. From his account, the deceased suddenly took ill and started vomiting before collapsing. She was being rushed to a hospital but died on the way. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the actual cause of death.”
Similar Incidents Raise Concern
The tragedy in Osun recalls the case of Adija, a Lagos State University (LASU) graduate, who was found dead in her boyfriend’s apartment in Meiran, Lagos. Her boyfriend allegedly absconded, sparking a police manhunt. Neighbours had earlier reported frequent domestic disputes between the couple.
Meanwhile, in Kano State, community leaders in Sharada recently enforced a ban on boyfriend-girlfriend nighttime meetings after 10 pm, citing security and moral concerns. The bylaw, supported by local elders, has stirred debate among youths, who see it as a restriction on personal freedom.
This Osun incident has once again fueled conversations about youth relationships, domestic safety, and community trust in law enforcement, with many Nigerians calling for swift justice and better awareness on safety in relationships.
