SOKOTO- The Police Command in Sokoto State has reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging public opinion and community suggestions to strengthen security operations across the state.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Ahmad Musa, made the commitment during an interactive session with stakeholders as part of activities marking the 2025 Police Customer Service Week celebration in Sokoto.
Musa said the initiative was in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police (I-G) aimed at deepening collaboration between security agencies and the public to improve intelligence sharing and promote community policing.
He emphasised that policing cannot be effective without the active support and communication of the general public.
“We must always listen to residents at the grassroots and work together to find lasting solutions to the security challenges in our communities.
“The police are part of the community, and only with your collective support and cooperation we can build the safer environment we all desire,” Musa stated.
The commissioner urged community leaders to maintain close communication with their respective Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and to promptly share information that could help prevent crime.
He assured the residents of the state of the command’s continued efforts to improve security operations and warned police personnel against unprofessional conduct, including harassment and extortion of motorists.
“We have strengthened our supervisory structures across all divisions with clearer duty charts, regular patrol schedules, and strategically positioned checkpoints within and around the state capital.
“All entry and exit routes are now properly manned, especially during night operations, to ensure the safety of lives and property,” he added.
Musa appreciated the participants for their constructive feedback and assured that the command would act on all credible suggestions.
Stakeholders at the meeting commended the command for its proactive approach to crime prevention while calling for greater vigilance and discipline among personnel.
