ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Representatives from 193 countries have called for stronger international cooperation to address some of the world’s most pressing challenges, including the humanitarian situation in Gaza, global food security, artificial intelligence and rising sea levels.
The European Commission disclosed this in a statement posted on its official X handle, highlighting key areas of discussion during the ongoing United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
According to the Commission, countries at the UNGA called for the provision of rapid and unhindered humanitarian assistance to people in Gaza amid the continuing humanitarian crisis.
The representatives also emphasised the need to strengthen protection of global food supplies through greater coordination, including efforts to bring together the Rome Coalition and existing European Union partnerships.
On emerging technologies, the countries called attention to the need for global standards governing artificial intelligence, reflecting growing international interest in developing common approaches to the technology and its impact.
The discussions also focused on the threats posed by rising sea levels, with countries calling for greater international attention to the risks associated with sea-level rise and its potential consequences for communities and countries around the world.
The European Commission said the discussions underscored the importance of collective action in addressing challenges that transcend national borders.
“Europe will always choose outreach and cooperation,” the Commission stated.
The position reflects the European Union’s emphasis on multilateral engagement and international cooperation in tackling humanitarian, environmental, food-security and technological challenges.
