ABUJA (PRECISE POST)  –
Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for what he described as professionalism, citing his personal experience with the anti-graft agency.

Soludo made the disclosure on Saturday in a post on his X handle, following the commissioning of the new EFCC Zonal Directorate in Awka by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.

The governor said he was invited by the EFCC several years after leaving office as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to provide information concerning an investigation involving the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company, where he had served as Chairman of the Board.

According to him, he honoured the invitation and subsequently received a formal letter from the commission stating that its investigation had found nothing against him.

He said the EFCC again confirmed in writing, years later when the matter resurfaced, that there was no evidence against him at the conclusion of its investigation.
“I still keep that letter,” Soludo said, describing the experience as evidence of the professionalism of the commission.

He said while invitations by anti-graft agencies often generate headlines, it was equally important that individuals cleared after investigations should be formally notified of their exoneration.

“In our country, once you are invited by an anti-graft agency, it makes headlines. It is only fair that when you are cleared, you are also formally cleared in writing,” he said.

Soludo urged the EFCC to sustain what he described as its professional approach, saying his personal experience informed his positive assessment of the commission.

The governor also welcomed the establishment of the new zonal directorate, saying it represented an important investment in strengthening the fight against corruption in Anambra and Imo states.

He therefore congratulated the EFCC and thanked President Tinubu for the initiative.
“Anambra welcomes the EFCC,” Soludo said.
