The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has appointed Mr. Suleiman Danlami Kum as the new Head of the Nigeria National Office, succeeding Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut.
Kum, a seasoned test developer, examination administrator and executive, brings nearly three decades of experience within WAEC to the new position, having joined the Council in July 1998 as Assistant Registrar II.
Born on October 16, 1970, in Minna, Niger state, Kum hails from Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau state.
He obtained a Bachelor of Agriculture in Animal Production from the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, in 1992, before earning a Post Graduate Diploma in Education from the National Open University of Nigeria in 2025.
He is currently completing a Master of Education in Educational Administration and Planning at NOUN.
Before joining WAEC, Kum served at the Division of Agricultural Colleges, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, during his NYSC programme and later taught at Baptist High School, Jos, where he served in several capacities between 1995 and 1998.
His career at WAEC has seen him occupy several strategic positions, including Head of Examinations Security in Awka, Yola and Makurdi; Branch Controller in Gusau and Kano; Head of the Security Printing Department; Zonal Coordinator in Port Harcourt and Ikeja; Director of Administration; and Senior Deputy Registrar, Test Administration.
The new WAEC Nigeria boss has also been associated with several technological and administrative innovations within the Council, including the establishment of the Gusau office as a Custodial Centre, introduction of Variable Data Prints and enhanced security features in examination printing, deployment of facial-recognition biometric attendance systems, and the delivery of Achievement Tests through Computer-Based Examination.
The Council described Kum as a professional who has demonstrated integrity, diligence, innovation and commitment to service throughout his career.
Before his latest appointment, he served as Deputy Registrar in the Office of the Head of National Office.
Kum has attended several national and international training programmes, conferences and symposia, including programmes in the United Kingdom. He has also published academic and professional works and is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Management.
He is married with children and enjoys travelling, swimming, reading and watching movies.
