ABUJA (PRECISE POST)  –  Political economist and public affairs commentator, Professor Pat Utomi, has unveiled plans to share policy proposals developed by different teams of Nigerian professionals to address the country’s declining living standards and accelerate economic improvement.

Utomi disclosed this in a post on his X handle on Thursday, explaining that he had constituted three teams to develop conservative, moderate and liberal policy recommendations based on the manifestos of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.

He said the initiative was designed to generate evidence-based solutions to Nigeria’s economic challenges, with each team approaching the issues from different ideological perspectives.

According to him, the conservative team was led by a former World Bank official who had occupied senior policy positions in government before returning to academia.

The liberal team, he explained, consisted largely of young professionals under the age of 40 working with the Big Four consulting firms, alongside their associates.

Utomi added that the moderate position was developed by a group of returnees, whom he described as “repats.”

He said all three teams were tasked with producing recommendations that could be supported by evidence and defended before the elders of the Big Tent during a review session he referred to as the “Shark Tank.”

Expressing satisfaction with the quality of contributions from the professionals involved, the economist said he was delighted to work with what he described as smart Nigerians committed to finding practical solutions to the country’s challenges.

Utomi said his decision to make the proposals public followed his appearance on a radio programme on Thursday morning, which motivated him to share the moderate team’s recommendations.

He indicated that the proposals would be accompanied by infographics to illustrate the policy recommendations and make them easier for the public to understand.

Precise Post recalls that the initiative reflects an effort to develop and scrutinise alternative policy approaches to improving living standards and accelerating economic progress, drawing on the political and policy positions associated with Obi and Kwankwaso.
