By Joan Nnenna Iwuchukwu
Abuja (Precise Post) – President of Nigeria Weightlifting Federation, Ibrahim Abdul is hopeful, seeking for more partnerships and sponsorships to organize more weightlifting championships.
Speaking to media men at the ongoing IGP championship ongoing in Abuja, the president maped out plans to push weightlifting to higher level where it belongs. As plans are on the way to qualify for Commonwealth championship starting with the qualifier in Uzebekistan as well as shunning out more talents.
“We have alot of coaches who have come for this championship. The aim is to scout for new talents, if you are good enough is and can break the record of the past person, its a straight forward thing, we bring you into the national team. Same thing as well as if we see you as a good prospect that could make it through training and re-training we bring you in as well.
My prospect is to qualify for the Commonwealth games. We are in camp now preparing for the qualifiers in Uzebekistan. So if a player qualifies will partake, but we hope to qualify in various categories.
We have various plans on board. But we are taking things slowly till we are back from our qualifiers which is our major concern now. By next year we will shun our calendar of activities for next year hopefully.
Reasons we seek for more collaborations to synergize with the federations to create various ways in organizing more championships. The ministry cannot do it alone we can’t keep depending on them. Reasons we seek for more stakeholders and sponsorships. He concluded.
