ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – The United States government has warned Americans against travelling to or through the Middle East, citing heightened tensions in the region and the potential for a rapid escalation of the ongoing military conflict.
The security advisory released on official X handle of Travel Gov on Saturday, said the security environment in the Middle East remained complex, with the possibility of unforeseen developments.
It urged Americans currently in the region to exercise heightened vigilance and prepare for possible flight cancellations, airspace closures and other travel disruptions.
According to the advisory, Iranian-supported Houthi forces have engaged in hostilities against Saudi Arabia, including attacks affecting civilian airports.
“This military conflict has the potential to escalate rapidly,” the advisory warned.
The US government further advised Americans outside the Middle East to “seriously reconsider” travel to and through the region.
Those who need to travel to or from the region were advised to closely monitor information from airports and airlines regarding operations and possible disruptions.
It also warned that US diplomatic facilities, including those located outside the Middle East, have been targeted.
It added that Iran and groups supportive of Iran could target other US interests overseas or locations associated with the United States and Americans around the world, including US businesses and other institutions.
The US government urged Americans to consult the latest country-specific security alerts and remain informed about developments before undertaking travel to affected areas.
