Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was among several high-profile politicians who attended a strategic meeting of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition in Abuja on Thursday.

The gathering brought together a formidable lineup of political figures including:

Nasir El-Rufai, former Governor of Kaduna State

Isa Ali Pantami, former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy

David Mark, former Senate President and current ADC National Chairman

Abdulfatah Ahmed, former Governor of Kwara State

Aminu Tambuwal, former Governor of Sokoto State

Photos from the meeting showed moments of camaraderie, with Atiku exchanging handshakes with David Mark, Tambuwal, and Abdulfatah Ahmed.

Atiku: Meeting Targets ‘Oligarchs Promoting Poverty, Insecurity’

In a post shared via his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, Atiku described the meeting as a collective resistance against entrenched interests he believes are stifling Nigeria’s progress.

“I am currently at the stakeholders’ meeting of the Coalition African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abuja. It’s a meeting of the Nigerian people against the oligarchs who promote poverty and insecurity in the land,” he wrote.

ADC Coalition Gears Up for 2027 Elections

The ADC coalition has emerged as a growing third force in Nigerian politics, following its formal adoption by several opposition figures in July. The platform is being positioned as an alternative to both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Originally founded in 2005 as the Alliance for Democratic Change, the party was rebranded as the African Democratic Congress and officially registered with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in 2011.

Since then, it has become a haven for reform-minded politicians and defectors seeking a centrist platform to reshape the political landscape.

Notable Political Heavyweights in the Coalition

Apart from Atiku and El-Rufai, the ADC coalition reportedly includes other prominent national figures such as:

Peter Obi – 2023 Labour Party Presidential Candidate

Rotimi Amaechi – Former Minister of Transportation

Rauf Aregbesola – Former Minister of Interior

Uche Secondus – Former PDP National Chairman

Dino Melaye – Former Senator, Kogi Central

Emeka Ihedioha – Former Speaker, House of Representatives

Odigie Oyegun – Former APC National Chairman

The coalition is expected to field a united front in the 2027 elections, with discussions ongoing around policy alignment, leadership selection, and national restructuring.
