ABUJA (PRECISE POST)  –  The media aide to former Vice President and presidential candidate Paul Ibe, has strongly condemned the reported deregistration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and other political parties, describing the development as a deliberate attempt by the administration of President to weaken opposition forces and pave the way for a one-party state.

Ibe who took to his X handle on Monday to condemn the decision, alleged that the judgment delivered by Justice Peter Lifu represented “the height of judicial rascality” and was part of a broader effort to undermine Nigeria’s democratic system ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, the ruling was made despite an earlier order of the Court of Appeal directing Justice Lifu to suspend further proceedings on the matter pending the determination of an appeal before the appellate court.

Ibe stated that a panel of the Court of Appeal comprising Justices Mohammed A. Danjuma, Adebunkunola A. Banjoko and Oyejoju O. Oyewumi, in Appeal No. CA/ABJ/CV/569/2026 and Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/2637/2025, had ordered a stay of further action on the case. He noted that the appellate court’s order, dated May 22, 2026, fixed the hearing of the appeal for October 27, 2026.

The Atiku aide argued that the circumstances surrounding the judgment had raised concerns about the state of Nigeria’s democracy and the independence of institutions charged with protecting democratic values.

He further accused the ruling party of acting out of desperation, alleging that the government was either seeking to secure an advantage in the 2027 elections or weaken democratic opposition in the country.

Ibe maintained that Nigerians and members of the international community should pay close attention to developments surrounding the case, insisting that the nation’s democracy was being threatened by actions aimed at shrinking the political space and limiting opposition participation.

He warned that Nigeria’s democratic gains, achieved through years of struggle and sacrifice, must be protected from any attempt to undermine multiparty democracy.
