ABUJA (Precise Post) – Former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, has strongly condemned the practice of labeling certain states as “educationally disadvantaged,” calling it both unjust and inequitable. Speaking out on the issue on January 18, 2025, Chidoka emphasized that the current state-based categorization fails to address the real problem: the quality of education, not the location.
The former Federal Road Safety Corps boss who took to his X account handle to condemn that, argued that educational disadvantage is rooted in poor instruction rather than being an inherent trait of any region or its people. “You cannot attend Bayero University Secondary School in Kano and claim a disadvantage against a student from Community Secondary School Omor in rural Anambra,” Chidoka stated, suggesting that a more inclusive, school-based system should be adopted.
Chidoka further criticized the concept of an “educationally disadvantaged state,” calling it an “embarrassing false and negative categorization” that undermines the potential of citizens from these regions. He concluded by urging a shift towards a school-based inclusion program to address the real disparities in Nigeria’s educational system.
