Leaders of the G7 have issued a strong and unified statement reaffirming their opposition to Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons, declaring unequivocally that “Iran can never have a nuclear weapon.” The declaration was made during the group’s annual summit, amid escalating regional tensions and growing concerns over Tehran’s uranium enrichment and restrictions on international monitoring.
The G7 urged Iran to immediately return to diplomatic negotiations and commit to verifiable obligations under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). They also demanded full cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), including the restoration of access for inspectors who have faced increasing limitations in recent years.
In addition, the leaders condemned Iran’s ongoing ballistic missile and drone activities, particularly the reported transfers of such technologies to Russia and militant groups across the Middle East. The G7 warned that Tehran could face coordinated sanctions if it continues to pursue activities deemed destabilizing to regional and global security.
