Warsaw (Precise Post) – Greece, on Monday asked European Union (EU) border
agency Frontex to conduct rapid border intervention at its external borders in
reaction to the deteriorating migrants’ situation along the border with Turkey.
Frontex received a request from the Greek Government to launch a rapid
intervention at its external borders.
However, it was looking into how to best
support Greece in the shortest possible time.
According to Frontex press official, Chris Borowski, Greece has also requested
assistance with regards to its islands.
Borowski noted that while it was too early to provide reliable information on
the number of migrant crossings, officials see that Syrians were not the
largest group at EU external borders with Turkey.
“In large part these are citizens from Afghanistan, Iraq and Iran,” he said.
