OECD Forum: Africa Must Lead Global Energy Transition – Alake

ABUJA (PRECISE POST)  – Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake has highlighted that the global energy transition needs bold, responsible action and that Africa must lead from the front.

Alake stated this at the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Forum held recently in Paris, France.

The minister, who  stated this on his verified X account handle,  noted that the country’s progress in mining and sustainable practices highlighted the potential for Africa to lead the global shift towards clean energy.

Speaking at the forum, Alake emphasized the urgent need for bold and responsible action to power the global energy transition, with Africa at the forefront of the movement. Citing Nigeria’s remarkable achievements in the first quarter of 2025—nearly ₦7 billion generated from mining license fees, over 1,200 artisanal cooperatives formalized, and hundreds of new licenses approved—the official underscored the importance of sustainability, value addition, and fostering investor confidence.

As Chair of the Africa Mineral Strategy Group, Alake expressed pride in collaborating with leaders across the continent to unlock long-term, inclusive growth from Africa’s vast mineral resources. “It’s time for Africa to move from exporting raw materials to owning the future of clean energy,”  he said
