ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has raised the alarm over an alleged directive to withdraw security personnel from polling units and collation centres across the state, warning that the move could expose voters and electoral officials to danger.
Governor Adeleke, in a statement on Saturday, alleged that “unscrupulous persons” were behind the directive and expressed concern that the withdrawal could leave innocent voters, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other electoral personnel vulnerable to attacks.
He alleged that the development could create an opportunity for what he described as “rampaging APC thugs” to disrupt the electoral process.
Adeleke therefore called on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) to immediately intervene and ensure adequate security coverage at polling units and collation centres across the state. “The IGP, DG DSS should not allow desperate politicians truncate Osun election,” the governor said.
He also appealed directly to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene urgently, stressing the need to protect the integrity of the electoral process and the safety of voters and election officials.
“Mr. President @officialABAT should intervene now!” Adeleke urged.
