Plateau (Precise Post) – The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, in 2023 general election, Mr. Peter Obi, on Monday visited Plateau State to commiserate with Governor Caleb Mutfwang and the people of the state over the recent spate of violence in Bokkos Local Government Area, which led to the loss of several lives and displacement of communities.

The former governor of Anambra S

tate disclosed this in a statement released on his X account on Tuesday.

Obi, who travelled from Abuja to the state capital Jos, and then onward to Bokkos, spent time with victims of the attacks, including displaced children and affected families. Expressing deep sorrow over the events, he described the killings as “saddening and utterly unacceptable.”

“Nigerians should not be killed or forced to flee their homes when we are not at war,” he said. “Every life is precious, and no Nigerian, regardless of where they live, should have to live in fear or uncertainty.”

He extended his condolences to the grieving families and communities, acknowledging that words could never truly capture the pain and devastation caused by such violence.

In a show of solidarity, Obi announced a donation of N7.5 million to support the internally displaced persons (IDPs), with a focus on providing continuous education, basic facilities, and other urgent needs for the affected children.

Precise Post recalls that this follows an earlier intervention by the Obidient Movement, which had constructed a borehole to provide clean water for the IDP camp and the wider community.

Precise Post recalls that Tinubu had in a statement on Monday, charged the Plateau state Governor Caleb Mutfwang, to summony political will to resolve the cause of disagreement and retaliation.

“Now, more than ever, leadership and compassion are essential,” Obi stated. “I stand in solidarity with Plateau State and remain committed to supporting all efforts toward peace, justice, and healing.”

He concluded his visit with a message of hope and resilience, affirming, “A new Nigeria is POssible.”
