ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa have reaffirmed the strong historical and diplomatic ties between their countries, pledging to deepen cooperation across key sectors for mutual growth and regional development.
The commitment was made during bilateral talks held in Johannesburg on Thursday as part of President Nandi-Ndaitwah’s working visit to South Africa.
The remarks released on the official X handle of Namibian President, has it that the meeting provided an opportunity for both leaders to review the state of relations between Namibia and South Africa, which they described as longstanding and fraternal, built on a shared liberation history and strengthened by years of political solidarity and cooperation.
The two presidents noted that relations between the neighbouring countries remain robust, marked by regular high-level engagements, strong political collaboration and expanding economic partnerships. They reiterated their commitment to promoting regional integration and sustainable development through regional bodies such as the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the Southern African Customs Union (SACU).
President Nandi-Ndaitwah and President Ramaphosa also underscored the significance of the Namibia–South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC), describing it as a critical mechanism for advancing bilateral cooperation and ensuring the implementation of agreed programmes and initiatives.
The leaders welcomed the broad scope of collaboration between the two nations, which is supported by more than 150 bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding covering sectors including trade, defence, education, infrastructure development, energy and diplomacy.
They expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded in these areas and pledged to strengthen existing partnerships while exploring new opportunities for cooperation that would benefit citizens of both countries.
Beyond bilateral matters, the two heads of state exchanged views on regional, continental and global issues of common interest, reaffirming their shared commitment to peace, stability and economic development across Africa.
The discussions also highlighted the importance of closer collaboration in addressing emerging challenges facing the region, including economic transformation, infrastructure development and regional security.
At the end of the meeting, both leaders reaffirmed their determination to further strengthen relations between Namibia and South Africa, emphasizing that enhanced cooperation would contribute to prosperity, stability and improved living standards for their peoples.
