Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has weighed in on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s recent statement about the 2027 presidential race.
Atiku, in a BBC Hausa interview, said he would step aside from the race if a younger aspirant defeats him in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) primaries. According to him, he would not only accept defeat but also support and mentor such a candidate.
“If I contest and a young man defeats me, I will accept that. The party we have joined prioritises youth and women,” Atiku stated, though he declined to confirm if he would officially run again.
Reacting on Thursday via his official X handle, Shehu Sani argued that defeating the former Vice President in a party primary is nearly impossible.
He wrote:
“His Excellency, the Waziri, reportedly said he would step aside if a younger candidate wins the primaries. The keyword here is primaries. It’s easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than to beat the Waziri in primaries. Party delegates are a special breed of people.”
Atiku, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), recently defected to the ADC, where he is already sparking fresh conversations about his political future.
