Vice President Kashim Shettima has reportedly made a discreet visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari, who is said to be receiving medical treatment in London.
According to sources, Shettima’s visit was carried out on the directive of President Bola Tinubu, who instructed the vice president to travel to London immediately after his engagement in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Shettima was in Addis Ababa to attend the official launch of the Green Legacy Initiative (GLI) at the invitation of Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali.
The vice president is said to have departed Addis Ababa on Sunday and arrived in London, where he visited Buhari at the hospital on Monday.
Reports suggest that President Tinubu asked Shettima to personally assess Buhari’s condition and ensure that the former leader was receiving adequate medical care and support.
Earlier, Empowered Newswire reported that Buhari had taken ill, though sources have since indicated that he is recuperating well. Former presidential aides Garba Shehu and Bashir Ahmad had also dismissed claims about the seriousness of Buhari’s health, describing them as exaggerated.
Shettima’s trip to the United Kingdom was confirmed by his media aide, Stanley Nkwocha, who, however, declined to reveal the purpose of the visit.
The discreet visit comes amid ongoing public interest in Buhari’s health status following his exit from office.
