Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has made a shocking revelation, alleging that a senior military officer plotted to have him killed during the 2019 general elections.
Speaking in a no-holds-barred interview on Channels Television Thursday night, the former Rivers State governor accused General Saham, then the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Division, of ordering troops to open fire on him.
“General Saham, former GOC of the 6 Division, tried to kill me. Amaechi promised to make him the next Chief of Staff. General Saham ordered that I should be shot,” Wike claimed.
He further disclosed that a colonel who refused the alleged order was detained for six months.
Wike added that he deliberately avoided visiting the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) after learning the retired general had been redeployed there.
“When I heard he is now in the NSA office, I refused to go there,” Wike said.
The FCT minister argued that today’s opposition governors complaining of intimidation “never faced the kind of threats” he endured during his tenure as governor.
The Nigerian Army and the individuals mentioned have yet to issue an official response at the time of this report.
