KADUNA – A senatorial aspirant for Kaduna Central, Amb. Yerima Shettima, has reaffirmed his intention to contest the 2027 election, dismissing reports of an “anointed candidate” as false and misleading.
Shettima, who is also the Convener of the Northern Stakeholders Consultative Initiative (NSCI), made the declaration while addressing journalists on Friday in Kaduna.
He described the rumours of a preferred candidate as “sponsored and malicious,” urging party members and supporters to disregard such claims.
The aspirant expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu and Gov. Uba Sani to ensure a level playing field for all aspirants under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“I believe in the leadership of President Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani to uphold fairness and provide equal opportunity for all contestants,” he said.
Shettima called for strict adherence to the rule of law, democratic principles, and the will of party members, stressing the need for credible primaries.
He urged the APC leadership to allow stakeholders to freely elect candidates with the capacity to deliver effective representation.
The aspirant also cautioned against actions capable of undermining democracy and eroding public confidence in the party.
While expressing optimism about APC’s chances in the forthcoming elections, he emphasised the importance of due process.
According to him, the party will emerge victorious, but we must do the right thing to sustain credibility and public trust.
Shettima further called on supporters to remain calm amid speculation, reiterating that he remains firmly in the race.
He added that if the party opts for a consensus arrangement, all aspirants must be duly consulted and carried along in the decision making process.
The senatorial hopeful pledged to abide by the outcome of a transparent primary conducted in line with the party’s constitution.
He reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and assured that his ambition is driven by the desire to provide quality representation for the people of Kaduna Central.
Shettima also appealed for continued support for Tinubu and Sani, noting that unity within the party remained crucial for electoral success.(NAN)
