TikTok’s US operations have completed a major ownership shift to comply with a US law passed in 2024 that forced Chinese‑owned ByteDance to divest or risk a ban.
The restructuring is designed to address data privacy and national security concerns raised by US lawmakers.
Under the new structure, TikTok’s US business is run by TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC, a majority‑American‑owned entity that will control US user data, algorithms, and content moderation.
American and global investors including Oracle, Silver Lake and Abu Dhabi’s MGX — hold about 80.1% ownership, while ByteDance retains a 19.9% stake.
This deal allows TikTok to continue operating in the US while keeping data and algorithm governance under a new American‑led framework.
