WASHINGTON DC – Yiaga Africa election observer team is in the United States of America for the #USElection2024 to observe the elections and study the U.S. electoral process.
Precise Post recalls that since 2008, we have participated in U.S. elections in various capacities.
According to the statement released on its official X account on Monday, “this year, our focus is on electoral integrity, the role of artificial intelligence in elections, and understanding the factors driving voter turnout. We are also attending the 2024 U.S. Election Program #USEP2024 hosted by @IFES1987 Alongside other delegates, we observed early voting in the D.C. area. Early voting, adopted by 47 out of 50 U.S. states, allows voters to cast their ballots before Election Day. This system eases congestion at polling stations on Election Day and provides flexibility for those who may be occupied or unavailable.

In Nigeria, the National Assembly @NGRSenate @HouseNGR is currently considering an early voting bill as part of the ongoing electoral reform process. This bill aims to enable eligible voters providing essential services on Election Day—such as security personnel, media, election observers, and polling officials—to participate in early voting. Currently, about 4 million voters are disenfranchised in each general election in Nigeria due to the absence of an early voting system. Introducing this option could expand access and ensure that those engaged in critical election duties can also exercise their right to vote.
