Four persons have been abducted as bandits stormed Kubwa area of the Federal Capital Territory. It was gathered that the armed bandits struck the Baipe area of the Kubwa at about 2 am Sunday morning, January 1, 2023. A source who spoke to Punch , said the gunmen abducted the four victims, all male, and escaped through the hills.“They kidnapped four men; one of them is Yoruba, two are Igala, and the fourth one is Tiv,” the source said. Another source revealed that during the attack, one of the victims was stabbed in the chest in the presence of his pregnant wife. “The Yoruba man was stabbed in the chest in the presence of his pregnant wife who was appealing that they spare him. But they took him away despite her pleas and money offer.”When contacted, FCT Police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, said the police would do its findings and revert.“We will confirm and get back to you, please.” the PPRO added.

Gov Rotimi Akeredolu Gov Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo state has pardoned seven convicts awaiting execution at correctional facilities within the State. The governor commuted the convictions of the seven prisoners who were awaiting execution from death sentences to life in prison. Also, four inmates serving varying jail terms had their sentences reduced, while seven others were released when it was determined that they had behaved well while in incarceration. The fortunate prisoners were exhorted by Akeredolu to take advantage of the chance to turn a new leaf and to refrain from any action that would send them back to the institutions. Charles Titiloye, the State’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, disclosed in a statement that Akeredolu’s act was done in the spirit of the Yuletide. “The Governor in exercise of power conferred on him by paragraphs (a) (c) and (d) of sub-section (1) of Section 212 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as Amended) directed the Controller of Nigerian Correctional Service in Ondo to release and set free, the said seven (7) inmates in the facilities …

Adamu Garba Adamu Garba, a former Presidential aspirant and member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has reacted to the endorsement of Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi by former President, Olusegun Obasanjo ahead of the 2023 polls. Adamu Garba stated on Twitter that the former president has always been envious of the success of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC. Recall that Obasanjo had in a lengthy New Year message to Nigerians, endorsed Obi amongst other presidential candidates for the 2023 election, saying he remains a better candidate. Gov Nasir El-Rufai Governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-Rufai has approved the release of eleven prisoners from the correctional centre within the state. This is according to the powers conferred on the governor by Section 212 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and on the recommendation of the Advisory Council on the prerogative of mercy. El-Rufai, in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Communication, Adekeye Muyiwa, explained that the pardoned prisoners include those serving jail sentences of three years or more who have six month or fewer to complete their term, as well as long-term prisoners who have served ten years or more of their sentence with good conduct and convict suffering from ill health likely to terminate in death. Those released are Yakubu Abdullahi, Habu Usman, Musa John, Abdullahi Abdulmumuni, Shamsu Usman, Mahadi Abdullahi, Abdullahi Lawal, Mohammed Anas, Kayode Gabriel Adenji, Sunday Iliya and Futune Mabuke.
