2023 Presidency: Why Obasanjo endorsed Obi – Reno reveals

By Chris Udochukwu Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri says the decision of former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s decision to endorse Peter Obi is not unconnected to the Nigerian civil war. Obasanjo on New Year’s Day publicly declared support for Peter Obi of the Labour Party to win the 2023 presidential election. Obasanjo made the declaration in an open letter to youths in Nigeria eight weeks before the general polls. He said though other candidates have the capacity to rule, Peter Obi is the type of character the country needs. Obasanjo urged young Nigerians to exercise their right, take active part in the 2023 elections and defend their votes. But Reno Omokri, a staunch supporter of former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, said Obasanjo’s support for Obi is to heal the wound of the 1966 civil war. Precise Post recalls that the Nigerian civil war was a three year long fratricide between 1967 and 1970 during which over three million Nigerians mostly of Igbo extraction were killed when the Eastern region of yore decided to secede from Nigeria. According to him, the former President also wanted former Rivers State Governor, Peter Odili to become …

King Pelé and the Beautiful Game

-By Simon Kolawole You might never have heard of Pelé if his great-grandparents had been taken as slaves to Argentina instead of Brazil. At the end of slave trade in the 19th century, Argentina was systematically “whitened”. Blacks were reportedly sent to the hottest battlefields in the War of Independence from Spain. Mass migration of whites from Europe was encouraged. Discriminated against on the social ladder, Afro-Argentines resorted to marrying Caucasians to whiten the skin colour of their offspring. Many migrated to nearby countries where blacks were better accommodated. Today, Afro-Argentines are practically invisible. None is excelling in sport, politics, journalism or the arts. You might never have heard of Pelé if his father, João Ramos do Nascimento (“Dondinho”), had not been forced to quit professional football following a serious injury. Dondinho redirected his energies to grooming his son in their poverty-stricken town in Minas Gerais. He didn’t have much money and could not afford Adidas kits for his little boy. He improvised with rags, old socks and grapefruit in the absence of a proper ball. It helped that Pelé saw Dondinho tearing up when Brazil …
