FRSC Vows Tough Action Against Reckless Drivers After Losing Five Officers in One Month

by Joy: News Admin

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has vowed to take decisive action against reckless motorists after confirming the tragic deaths of five of its personnel in September 2025. The officers were killed in separate incidents across the country after being knocked down by speeding drivers while on duty.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, FRSC spokesperson Olusegun Ogungbemide said Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed expressed deep grief over the loss and directed that all motorists responsible for the incidents face immediate prosecution.

“These are not just statistics; they are human lives — fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, and breadwinners — cut short while serving the nation on our highways,” the statement read.

Multiple fatal incidents across commands

The deadly incidents occurred on:

  • September 6 – Ekiti Sector Command

  • September 8 – Ogun Sector Command

  • September 15 – Taraba Sector Command

  • September 19 – Jos By-Pass Unit Command

  • September 24 – Obollo Afor Unit Command

Mohammed described the rising dangers faced by FRSC personnel as “unacceptable,” stressing that operatives now contend not only with reckless drivers but also with kidnapping attempts, violent attacks, and targeted assaults.

“The FRSC will no longer tolerate acts of recklessness that endanger its officers. Anyone who disregards traffic laws or attacks our personnel will face the full weight of the law,” he warned.

Safety measures and ongoing reforms

The corps marshal urged operatives nationwide to remain vigilant and prioritise personal safety while discharging their duties.

“They need to be safe and alive in order to save others,” he said.

He added that the FRSC is working closely with security agencies to provide better protection for its officers and installations, clarifying that the move is a defensive measure designed to deter further assaults.

Honouring the fallen officers

On behalf of the corps, Mohammed extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen officers and praised their courage and dedication.

“We salute their sacrifice. I call on all Nigerians to honour their memory by respecting traffic laws, cooperating with FRSC operatives, and supporting our mission to end avoidable deaths on the highways,” he stated.

The corps marshal concluded with a firm warning: “Going forward, any disregard for traffic laws or threats to FRSC personnel will attract severe sanctions and legal consequences.”
