ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – The TinCan Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has successfully concluded a week-long in-house training programme for senior officers, designed to enhance professionalism, operational competence, and leadership capacity across all units.
This was revealed in a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs (CSC) Oscar Ivara, released on the official X handle of the Commission on Thursday.
According to the statement, the intensive training, which ran from Monday, October 13 to Friday, October 17, 2025, at the Command’s headquarters in Lagos, brought together senior officers from various departments to sharpen their skills and deepen their expertise in critical areas of customs operations.
Declaring the programme open, the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Frank Onyeka, highlighted the importance of continuous learning in strengthening the Service’s overall efficiency and effectiveness.
“This training is not just a routine exercise but an investment in the growth of our personnel,” Comptroller Onyeka stated. “I urge every officer to apply the knowledge gained here to their daily duties and remain committed to excellence in service delivery.”
He added that similar capacity-building initiatives would soon be extended to junior officers, ensuring inclusivity in the Command’s ongoing drive toward enhanced productivity and professionalism.
The week-long programme featured seasoned in-house resource persons and covered key operational topics such as Physical Examination, Reputation Management, Risk Management and Documentary Checks, Evidence Exploitation, Customs Procedure Codes, Classification, VIN Valuation, Customs Valuation, Code of Conduct, and Customs Administration, among others.
In his closing remarks, Comptroller Onyeka reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to developing a well-rounded, skilled, and proactive workforce capable of tackling the evolving challenges of modern customs operations.
Participants described the training as highly insightful and impactful, commending the Command’s leadership for its steadfast dedication to officer development and organizational excellence.
