Human rights lawyer, Maxwell Opara, has commended the Southeast people for exonerating the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, over accusations of being a criminal and a terrorist.
Reports that Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced Nnamdi Kanu to life imprisonment after being convicted on all seven counts of terrorism filed against him.
However, Opara, in an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Friday, insisted that Kanu is not a terrorist as being painted.
According to him, Nnamdi Kanu has suffered the highest injustice in the entire world.
He said, “The people Southeast know that Nnamdi Kanu is not a criminal, he’s not a terrorist. I want to commend them for that.
“I want to call all well-meaning Nigerians to join hands and wade into this matter so that the Court of Appeal will set aside this judgment.
“I have to tell you that as at yesterday when the judgment was given, there in America where our delegates were meeting with the US Congress, one of the Congressmen raised this issue and highlighted the kind of injustice Nnamdi Kanu has suffered in the hands of Nigeria as if the man is a Nigerian.
“So, sometimes when we are talking, these people get information more than you. Nnamdi Kanu has suffered the highest injustice than any other person in the whole world.
“He was in his house enjoying himself, the Federal Government who is prosecuting him went to his house unprovoked and killed 38 persons.”
