ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – The All Progressives Congress (APC) has firmly dismissed widespread media speculation suggesting that Vice President Kashim Shettima may be replaced as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s running mate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a strongly worded statement released on Monday, signed by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, CON, the ruling party described the reports as “purely speculative, untrue and utterly baseless,” warning that such narratives are deliberately being pushed to sow discord and confusion within the polity.
The APC said it had observed a growing media frenzy around the matter, which initially appeared subtle but later escalated with the circulation of names of individuals allegedly being considered to replace the Vice President. The party categorically denied any such plans.
Urging media organisations to exercise restraint, the APC cautioned against providing platforms for what it called rumour-peddlers and “mischievous news sources of questionable provenance,” stressing that their sole aim is to destabilise the political environment.
The party further noted that under existing laws and electoral regulations, the ban on political activities remains in force, making the ongoing speculations not only misleading but also premature.
According to the APC, its current priority is to fully support President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima in the implementation of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The party said the agenda’s bold reforms are already transforming the economy, expanding prosperity, and improving the living conditions of Nigerians.
The APC also issued a caution to its ministers, senior government officials and party leaders, urging them to avoid actions or statements that could fuel unnecessary speculation. Instead, they were advised to concentrate on effective service delivery and strengthening public confidence in the achievements of the Tinubu-led administration.
The statement further reaffirmed the party’s commitment to unity, discipline and unwavering support for President Tinubu, whom he described as a visionary leader driving Nigeria’s renewal.
