Iran War: Troost-Ekong Trapped in Qatar as Airspace Closes

Regional tension disrupts travel plans

by Arabella Zikora

William Troost‑Ekong, a former Super Eagles captain, is reportedly stranded in Qatar, according to Soccernet.

Troost-Ekong recently signed for Al Ahli SC after leaving Saudi Arabia in January.

But as it stands, the 32-year-old cannot leave Qatar amid the unfolding international crisis in the Middle East.

This is because football matches and flights are on hold.

There are growing military tensions between Iran and Israel in the Gulf.

Iran carried out strikes on key locations in retaliation for attacks it believes were carried out by the United States and Israel.

Qatar’s Defense Ministry also claimed its air defense system blocked missiles that were sent into the country as part of a planned security measure.

After Qatar and nearby countries closed their airspace temporarily, many foreigners, travelers, and professional athletes were stuck in the country.
