ABUJA (Precise Post) – The Nigerian Senate has summoned key national security officials to appear before it in an urgent investigation into allegations that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) may be funding terrorist organizations, including Boko Haram.

The summons, which includes the National Security Adviser, the Director General of the State Security Services (DSS), the Director of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), and the Director of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), follows a motion raised by Senator Ali Ndume to probe the serious claims.

Senator Ndume’s motion was prompted by a viral video featuring U.S. Congressman Scott Perry, a Republican from Pennsylvania, who accused USAID of funding terrorist groups, including Boko Haram, during a congressional hearing. Perry’s remarks were made during the inaugural session of the Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency, focused on alleged misappropriations of taxpayer funds.

Ndume’s motion also referenced statements made by Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, who recently raised concerns about international organizations allegedly sponsoring and training terrorist groups in Nigeria.

The allegations come just days after Perry accused USAID of financing global terrorist organizations like Islamic State and al-Qaeda, in addition to their local affiliates, including Boko Haram in Nigeria. Perry cited a report claiming USAID had provided $136 million for the construction of 120 schools in Pakistan, with no evidence of their completion.

This investigation underscores growing concerns over the role of international organizations in conflicts around the world and their potential ties to terrorism.
