Jos, Plateau State — The outgoing Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State, Chris Hassan, says he has no regrets leading the party back to power, describing the current PDP-led administration as performing creditably well.
Speaking at a press briefing in Jos on Friday to mark his final day in office, Hassan reflected on his tenure and the party’s achievements since reclaiming the state from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2023.
The state was previously under APC control with Senator Simon Lalong as governor until 2021, when Hassan, a former Commissioner for Works, assumed leadership of the PDP.
“We have no regrets returning the PDP to power, and the current administration under the party is doing well,” Hassan told reporters.
Acknowledges Media Support and Party Achievements
Hassan expressed gratitude to the media for their “consistent support and partnership,” noting that their professional coverage gave the PDP visibility during challenging political times.
He highlighted the PDP’s strong showing in the 2023 general elections, where the party won the governorship, two senatorial seats, five House of Representatives seats, and 16 out of 24 seats in the Plateau State House of Assembly.
“We confronted the then ruling party not with bitterness, but with conviction that Plateau State deserves better service,” he added.
Commends Governor Mutfwang’s Leadership
Hassan praised Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s administration for its strides in governance, peacebuilding, infrastructure, and accountability, describing it as “a model for good leadership.”
“His leadership has set a new standard, and we will continue to support his efforts to move Plateau State forward,” he said.
He also urged party members to remain united and loyal, dismissing the recent wave of defections as temporary setbacks.
“Soon, a stronger and more united PDP will emerge,” Hassan assured.
Party Congress Scheduled
Hassan congratulated the incoming state executive and encouraged them to build on the foundation of unity laid during his tenure.
The Plateau PDP will hold its state congress on Saturday, October 25, 2025, where a new executive is expected to emerge and lead the party for the next four years.
