AKURE (PRECISE POST) – The Ondo State Police Command has launched an investigation into a viral video circulating on social media in which a cleric allegedly warned of impending attacks in parts of the state.
In a statement issued on Monnday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the command was concerned about the spread of the video and cautioned residents against circulating unverified information capable of causing panic and tension.
According to the statement, the claims made in the video currently lack confirmed intelligence backing, stressing that there is no verified indication of any imminent terrorist attack in Ondo State.
The police spokesperson noted that immediately after the video surfaced online, the command activated its intelligence and operational mechanisms to assess the credibility of the claims and determine whether any real threat existed to public safety.
Following the development, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Felix Ohagwu, directed a discreet and thorough investigation into the source and content of the video.
The command disclosed that surveillance operations, intelligence gathering, strategic monitoring, and security deployments had since been intensified across the state, especially in vulnerable areas, to forestall any possible security breach.
While reassuring residents of their safety, the police said they remained on high alert in collaboration with other security agencies and stakeholders to ensure the protection of lives and property.
The command also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station or relevant security agency.
Residents were further advised to rely only on verified and official sources for security-related information and avoid spreading alarmist reports capable of undermining public peace.
The police reiterated their commitment to sustaining security and public order in the state through collaboration with community leaders, traditional institutions, local vigilante groups, and other stakeholders.
