ABUJA (PRECISE POST)  –  The Abia State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old woman, Nwoko Gift, after a viral video allegedly captured her attempting to attack her 12-year-old niece with a kitchen knife in Umuahia.

The Command said preliminary investigations revealed that the incident occurred on July 5, 2026, at the suspect’s residence in IBB Housing Estate, Umuahia, where she allegedly attempted to kill the victim, Miss Ebo Chimamanda, for failing to spread clothes before she left for the market.

According to the police, investigators also uncovered a pattern of alleged abuse, revealing that the suspect had repeatedly subjected the child to physical assault and had on several occasions threatened to kill her.

The police said operatives attached to the World Bank Divisional Police Headquarters acted swiftly on credible intelligence following the incident. The officers rescued the 12-year-old victim, arrested the suspect at the scene, and recovered the kitchen knife allegedly used in the attempted attack.

The Command disclosed that the matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a comprehensive investigation.

Police added that the suspect will be charged with attempted murder upon the conclusion of investigations.

Precise Post recalls the incident has sparked widespread outrage on social media after the disturbing video circulated online, prompting calls for justice for the child and stronger protection against domestic violence and child abuse.
