Saraki Eulogises Late Paul Unongo, Hails His Selfless Service to Nation

ABUJA NIGERIA – Former President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki has eulogised late Wantaregh Paul Unongo, former Minister of Steel Development, describing him as a remarkable statesman who devoted his life to the selfless service of his people and our nation.

The former Kwara State Governor stated this when he took to his X account on Tuesday saying:

The late Wantaregh Paul Unongo, former Minister of Steel Development, was a towering figure in Nigerian politics, a relentless advocate for justice, equity, and national progress.

Beyond his public achievements, he was a man of immense kindness, wisdom, and generosity—a mentor to me and countless others across the nation.

This is why today, I travelled to Makurdi, Benue State, to pay my last respects to this remarkable statesman who devoted his life to the selfless service of his people and our nation.

May his legacy continue to inspire generations to come, and may the Almighty bring comfort and strength to the family and loved ones he left behind.

Precise Post recalls that Wantaregh Paul Unongo died Tuesday after a brief illness.

Born on September 26, 1935 in Turan, Kwande Local Government Area of Benue state, Wantaregh Unongo a humanist was the pioneer Secretary General of the defunct Nigerian People’s Party, NPP, and an ally of the late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe.

He was also the Convener and former Chairman of the Northern Elders Forum, NEF.

Until his death he was the Chairman of the Governing Board of the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council, NERDC.
