ABUJA (Precise Post) – Human rights crusader, Comrade Shehu Sani has recounted the legacy of Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello which is a life of service.
Shehu Sani who took to his X account on the Armed Forces Remembrance Day to ventilate his feelings about the late Sardauna and sir:
“In Kaduna, where the late Premier of Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto, lived, led, and was tragically murdered, there is still no trace of personal wealth left in his name. Despite his significant leadership and contributions to his people and the nation, there are no houses, vehicles, or companies bearing his name or linked to his family members in the region.
After his untimely death in the brutal events of the 1966 coup, his personal belongings were taken back to his family home in Sokoto, marking the end of an era for a man who lived a life of service rather than self-interest.
The late Sardauna was known for dedicating everything he had to the advancement of his people and the nation, and yet, he passed away a materially poor man. His commitment to the welfare of the Northern region and Nigeria as a whole was unwavering, even as he lived a simple, humble life. His murder, along with that of other leaders during the 1966 coup, remains one of the darkest chapters in Nigeria’s history. The tragic events that unfolded on that fateful day are still felt in the fabric of the nation, as the seeds of division and violence sown in 1966 continue to haunt the country.
As we remember Sardauna and all the victims of that tragic coup, we honor their memories and reflect on the cost of political instability and violence. May the souls of all those who perished in the 1966 coup rest in peace.
