OSOGBO – The Osun State Police Command says it has arrested a man over the alleged killing of a commercial motorcyclist and the theft of his motorcycle.

A statement issued in Osogbo on Friday by DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) said a complaint was lodged at the ‘A’ Division, Ede, on Feb. 21.

The complaint was that one Tiramiyu Afeez, a commercial motorcyclist, left home for work within Ede town but did not return.

Ojelabi said the complainant, a relative of the deceased, later received information that a police patrol team from Awo Division discovered an unidentified male corpse with a slit throat on the Ojo/Ara-Ejigbo Road.

According to him, the corpse was later identified as that of the missing motorcyclist.

He said the case was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Osogbo, and assigned to the homicide section for investigation.

Ojelabi said investigation led to the arrest of a suspect on April 18 in possession of the deceased’s motorcycle.

The police PRO said the suspect, during interrogation, confessed to luring the victim through a phone call from Ede to the Ara-Ejigbo axis.

He stated that on getting to a secluded location, he attacked the victim from behind and slit his throat with a knife before making away with the motorcycle.

Ojelabi stated that the suspect also confessed to disposing of the knife used in the attack as well as the victim’s mobile phone.

“The suspect will be charged to court upon completion of investigation,” Ojelabi added. (NAN)
