Cybersecurity Levy: Tax reforms not to frustrate Nigerians — Shettima

By Ogechi Okorie ABUJA – Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, on Saturday, said the tax reforms undertaken by the Bola Tinubu administration were not aimed to frustrate Nigerians but to sustain the country’s investment friendliness. Recall that Central Bank of Nigeria has rolled out a cybersecurity levy policy implementation that would kick off in two weeks time. The VP, represented by his Special Adviser on General Duties Dr Aliyu Umar, spoke at the close-out retreat of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee held at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja. Shettima’s Spokesperson, Mr Stanley Nkwocha, revealed this in a statement titled, ‘Our tax reforms initiated for overall benefits of Nigerians – VP Shettima’. He argued that contrary to speculations in some quarters, “we are not here to frustrate any sector of our economy but to create an administrative system that ensures the benefits of a thriving tax system for all our citizens”. However, President Bola Tinubu has directed the CBN to immediately suspend the implementation og the cybersecurity levy. Ayogu Eze Served Enugu People, Nigeria With Distinction – Atiku

By Chris Udochukwu ABUJA – The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 25, 2023 general election, Atiku Abubakar has extoled the virtues of late Senator Ayogu Eze, saying he served served the people of Enugu North Senatorial District and indeed Nigeria with distinction. The former Vice President who stated this in a condolence message he personally signed and released via his X account @atiku, expressed shock and sadness over his demise. He said that late Ayogu Eze was a founding member of the PDP. Atiku’s statement reads: I received the news of the passing of Sen. Ayogu Eze with shock and sadness. He was a founding member of the @OfficialPDPNig who served the people of Enugu North Senatorial District and indeed Nigeria with distinction. May his family be comforted and his soul rest in peace. -AA Precise Post recalls that Ayogu Eze died died on Thursday in an Abuja hospital at the age of 66 after a protracted illness.

In 2016 Gubernatorial election, Edo South produced 48.37% of the total votes, Edo North had 32.23%, while Central had 19.4%. At the 2020 gubernatorial election, Edo South contributed 46.50% of total votes, Edo North produced 35.50%, while Edo Central delivered 18% of the total votes. In Edo politics, Adams Oshiomole is in strong command of Edo North, Governor Godwin Obaseki is from Edo South, while Philip Shaibu the Deputy Governor is also from the North. Oshiomole is backing Idahosa, Obaseki is backing Asue, while Philip Shaibu is running his race (rumors are rife that he’s planning to switch party). While the Central is expected to come out en-mass for Barr. Asue Ighodalo, there is a challenge from the South and North, especially within the PDP. PDP Wins All Four Constituency Seats In Bauchi Rerun Election

By Chris Udochukwu BAUCHI – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has emerged as the winner in all the state constituency seats in the recently concluded rerun election in Bauchi State. Jamilu Dahiru secured victory in the Bauchi Central Constituency rerun election with a total of 45,240 votes, defeating his closest opponent Aliyu Abdullahi of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who received 41,266 votes. Abubakar Suleiman was officially declared the winner of the Ningi Central Constituency rerun election by INEC, obtaining a total of 11,785 votes and surpassing his major contender Khalid Ningi of the All Progressives Congress, who received 10,339 votes. INEC also announced Nasiru Ala as the winner of the Madara/Chinade rerun election with a cumulative vote of 13,920, defeating Dantata Ali of the APC, who obtained 9,710 votes. In the Zungur/Galambi Constituency rerun, Sa’idu Ahmed emerged victorious with a total of 26,821 votes, defeating his major opponent Ibrahim Yuguda of the APC, who received 24,376 votes.
