ABUIA (PRECISE POST) – Governor Bala Mohammed has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that he is planning to leave the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The clarification followed a report attributed to Hon. Nuhu Saga, which claimed that the Bauchi State governor was set to dump the APM and return to the PDP, where he was allegedly being considered as the running mate to former President Goodluck Jonathan in a proposed 2027 presidential ticket.
The report, which gained traction across various social media platforms, suggested that discussions were underway to position Mohammed as a key figure in a PDP-led coalition aimed at challenging for power in the next election cycle.
However, reacting to the speculation, Governor Mohammed categorically denied any plan to leave the APM, describing the reports as inaccurate and without foundation.
In a statement issued in response to the claims on his X handle on Sunday, the governor thanked those expressing interest in his political future but stressed that his immediate political ambition remains focused on representing Bauchi South Senatorial District under the platform of the APM.
“Thank you for your interest in my political aspirations. However, for the sake of clarity, my focus remains firmly on contesting for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM),” he stated.
The governor further urged members of the public, political supporters, and stakeholders to disregard reports linking him with a planned defection to the PDP, insisting that such claims were merely speculative.
“Any reports suggesting a different political course should be disregarded as speculative and inaccurate,” he added.
The rebuttal comes amid increasing political realignments and intense speculation over possible alliances ahead of the 2027 elections. Several political figures across party lines have been linked with coalition talks and potential defections as parties strategize for the next electoral cycle.
Mohammed’s name has featured prominently in recent political discussions due to his national profile and influence within northern politics. The reports linking him with a possible return to the PDP and a vice-presidential role alongside former President Goodluck Jonathan fueled widespread debate among political observers and supporters.
With his latest clarification, however, the governor has sought to put an end to the speculation, reaffirming both his commitment to the APM and his intention to pursue the Bauchi South Senatorial seat rather than any national office.
Political analysts say the statement is likely to calm uncertainty among his supporters and party members while reinforcing his current political direction ahead of preparations for the 2027 elections.
For now, Governor Bala Mohammed has maintained that he remains fully committed to the Allied Peoples Movement and has no plans to abandon the party for the PDP, contrary to reports circulating online.
