Enugu – Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state has warned traditional rulers in the state not to promote activities capable of generating crisis during the Yuletide.
Ugwuanyi, who gave the warning on Wednesday while inaugurating two different civic centres in Ikem-Etiti and Uno-Neke communities in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area, stressed the need for communal peace across the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the World Bank assisted projects were built under the state’s Community and Social Development Project (CSDP).
Represented by the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr Greg Nnaji, the governor stated that the CSDP projects were “purely community-driven”
He expressed his administration’s continued commitment to promote community-driven projects because of their potentials to serve the people positively.
“My administration will continue to evolve programmes that will provide more infrastructural facilities to the people, especially the rural populace.
“ We have remained committed to our counterpart funding for the World Bank-assisted projects, it is a way of supporting the rural people,” he said.
Ugwuanyi urged the beneficiaries to ensure good maintenance culture in the use of the facilities.
Earlier, Dr Maximus Asogwa, General Manager, CSDP, expressed happiness at the completion and inauguration of the projects.
“Before we embarked on this projects, the people of the area were holding their meetings in an open place,” he said.
He commended the benefiting communities for their cooperation in the course of the implementation of the projects.
Speaking on behalf of Ikem-Etiti community, Mr Ikechukwu Agbo, thanked the state government for the gesture and described the CPMC initiative as commendable.
“Words cannot express our joy today, we commend the transparency, honesty and commitment exhibited during the implementation process,” he said.
